How to make an Origami DaffodilMay 19, 2012
SPRING IS IN THE AIR!!! :D Normally I am not a big fan of models folded from odd shape paper such as hexagons... but there must always be exceptions... like this magnificent daffodil by Ted Norminton (Classic Origami by Paul Jackson, available for less than 10US$, found diagram also online: www.flickr.com ). Not a real easy model to make but well worth the effort. The video also shows how to make the stem and a nice feature is that it can stand upright on its own! You can still make them from 12 cm squares but better use 15cm or bigger. I did not need the scissors myself of course ... Enjoy! ; )
"Daffodils" read by Jeremy IronsMay 19, 2012
The poesm "Daffodils" wirtten in 1804 by William Wordsworth read by the actor Sir Jeremy Irons. --- Sir Jeremy Irons has really incredible voice. Background: photos from Internet. Daffodils and Jeremy Irons as he appears in "Elisabeth". --- "Daffodils" (1804) I wander'd lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the Milky Way, They stretch'd in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. The waves beside them danced; but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee: A poet could not but be gay, In such a jocund company: I gazed -- and gazed -- but little thought What wealth the show to me had brought: For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils. By William Wordsworth (1770-1850). Nice article about Daffodils angelatunner.com
The Daffodil PrincipleMay 19, 2012
This is a version if not 'the' version of the known 'Daffodil Principle'. My wife and I put this together for a inspirational presentation to show at a Church meeting. We did not see any other 'Daffodil Principle' slide shows or videos so we thought we'd share the one we created. We hope you enjoy it. The music we used was written and performed by Tracy Rowe. The two songs used are from her CD 'Expressions'. Copyright Tracy Rowe 2005. The images used were from Google searches, in other words, we got them from the internet.

Brothers Four - Seven Daffodils I may not have mansion, I haven't any land Not even a paper dollar to crinkle in my hands But I can show you morning on a thousand hills And kiss you and give you seven daffodils I do not have a fortune to buy you pretty things But I can weave you moonbeams for necklaces and rings And I can show you morning on a thousand hills And kiss you and give you seven daffodils Oh seven golden daffodils all shining in the sun To light our way to evening when our day is done And I will give music and a crust of bread And a pillow of piny boughs to rest your head A pillow of piny boughs to rest your head

Daffodil CareMay 05, 2012
Daffodils have been really good this year and to me they seem to have flowered for a long time. They were early coming into flower because of the mild winter, but then the colder weather in March and early April seemed to slow them down again and the flowers lasted longer than normal. At least that's what I think has happened in our garden! As the flowers of daffodils finish, the bulbs start to build up their food reserves for next year and you should always allow the bulbs to die down naturally. This means no chopping off of leaves or tying the foliage in knots as this reduces the amount of leaf area that is exposed to the sun which slows down the plants natural food making process. The general rule is to leave the foliage for around six weeks after flowering or until the leaves are turning yellow. Left to die down naturally daffodils should be fine, although there are a few more things that you can do to keep the clump healthy and flowering.

How to Plant Tulips and DaffodilsMay 15, 2012
Lowe's teaches you how to plant daffodils and tulips in the fall so you have a beautiful garden in the spring. The most popular spring-flowering plants include: -Tulips, which produce vividly colorful flowers in red, yellow, pink, white, purple, orange, and bicolors. -Daffodils, also called narcissus, are among the spring's earliest bloomers. Most feature a trumpet-shape middle surrounded by frilly petals. Daffodils generally bloom in white or shades of yellow and orange, but they also come in pretty peach. Planting tulip and daffodil bulbs is easy. STEP 1: Dig a hole. The size of the bulb will dictate how deep you should dig the hole. For small bulbs such as these little daffodils, you plant just 2 to 3 inches deep. Larger bulbs, such as these tulips, are planted 5 to 6 inches deep. Just make sure you plant 2-3 times the depth of the bulb and refer to the planting instructions that come with the plant. Add a little compost or fertilizer to the planting hole to give your bulbs a nutrient boost. STEP 2: Set the bulb root side down in the soil. Bulbs have a top and bottom. The bottom usually has a little ruffle of dried roots. The top is generally more pointed. STEP 3: If you want a mass of color in your garden, plant bulbs close together. And plant lots. It's not unusual to plant 100 bulbs in a small area. If you want little clumps of bulbs in your garden or landscape, plant them in groups of 6 to 12 bulbs. STEP 4: Cover the bulbs with soil. Water well. Then add a 2 to 3 ...
The Hobbits - Daffodil DaysApr 27, 2012
From the 1967 album Down To Middle Earth. The Hobbits bio: Folk-rock outfit the Hobbits was the studio project of Queens, New York-born singer/songwriter Jimmy Curtiss, who ranks as one of the more interesting footnotes in the history of rock & roll — the rare would-be teen idol who actually wrote his own material (and did so admirably), he later expanded his reach into psychedelia and harmony-laden folk-rock, but while the subject of a small cult following, none of his records ever made a commercial dent. Curtiss first surfaced in 1959 as a member of the doo wop combo the Enjays and issued his solo debut, "Without You," on United Artists in 1961 — the label attempted to position him as a teen crooner in the mold of Bobby Vee or Paul Anka, but he failed to make a commercial impact. After a period working as a songwriter he dropped out of music to pursue a career in advertising before resurfacing in 1967 with the bubblegum cult classic "Psychedelic Situation," a major hit in Germany that attracted little attention at home. Curtiss then signed to Decca, collaborating with producers Jerry Vance and Terry Phillips and songwriter Marcia Hillman on the Hobbits — despite borrowing their name from JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings novels and titling their 1967 debut Down to Middle Earth, the Hobbits turned out relatively straightforward sunshine pop, and the album is much sought-after by soft-psych aficionados. The follow-up, Men and Doors: The Hobbits Communicate, appeared in 1968 ...
